PLEASE SEND ALL REUNION PHOTOS TO KIM PATERSON, 4mcelvenny4@gmail.com.
We hope that many of you will contribute. There are many more photos coming soon!
Here is Eileen's Thank You speech (which was never given), with the photos below it:
Who knew where life would take us after high school? We have all been on a journey and we all have fascinating stories to tell.
First of all, you may wonder who I am? I am #372 in your booklet. I got involved in helping to create this night last December. I wanted to make certain that we had our picture on the nametags. I remember being at the last reunion embarrassed that I did not know who some of you were and I am certain you felt the same way.
So I pulled out my yearbook, dusted it off and aired it out to get rid of the musty smell. I started flipping through the pages and wondered if I ever attended Haverford. I began to realize that I knew so few people in our class. How did that happen? Did I hide in the bathrooms in high school? I thought maybe some people liked me and hoped it was not a fantasy I had. However, I noticed that not many people signed my yearbook. Wasn’t that how we judged our popularity? I brought it tonight so maybe I could get a few more people to sign it.
Next, I decided to type all of your names in alphabetical order to make it easier to record any information given to me on you. I could not believe there were 485 people in our class. No wonder we did not know everyone. I have a question for some of the guys in our class “Why did many of you not use a middle initial”? This did not help us in locating you. For the girls in our class, some of you have changed your name so many times that we did not want to record your information in ink. When I was talking to one of the girls in our class about what to wear tonight, she said “I have a few wedding dresses that I could wear.” Actually, maybe the guys were thinking the same thing.
I honestly think that we should submit Patty Green’s name to the show America’s Most Wanted. She could get a job in finding people or maybe we could find her a job with a collection agency. Do not ever try to hide from Patty as she is relentless in finding people and hounding you for your money.
Since most of us have retired since the last reunion, there were many people who wanted to help make this a special night. There were a group of wonderful detectives who found you, hounded you by emails and phone calls. Others offered to help such as Marshall Osborne who did the cover and map in the booklet. Marshall sent me a copy of the first cover he created and I told him he had to put his initials somewhere on the page as he deserved the credit. He sent it back to me with his initials on the back bumper of the car; however, the initials got lost in the printing process. So Marshall said he would sign the front cover of your booklet tonight if you want him to. Also, thank you to Ron Calvy who contacted his brother who has a printing business and he printed the booklets for us. Kim McElvenny with her computer knowledge set up our blog and has been posting the information that you sent her and please continue to do this along with pictures. Thank you to Rich McCloskey for organizing the golf outing and being so willing to do whatever was asked of him, and to Andy Talley for arranging for football tickets for those who are going to the game tomorrow. It is Homecoming at Villanova and that is why Andy could not be here. Thank you to Eric Van Gilder for being a calming influence, a supportive person, helping in any way possible and always having logical answers to sometimes crazy questions. All of you who are mentioned on the second page stand up in case none of us recognize you. Each of you has helped to make this evening a success.
We all have many stories to tell about how some of you were found. One of my funny stories deals with finding Fred Miller. His mother and my mother were good friends and I volunteered to find him. I remembered that Fred lived in NJ. I easily found his NJ address and kept calling the number listed but found it was not in service. I figured he was in FL for the winter. As it got closer to spring I kept trying to call the number but no answer. I was talking to Judy Kimes about trying to find Fred. She gave me Fred’s brother phone number in MD. I called and talked to his sister-in-law she gave me Fred’s email address. Fred was actually delighted to hear from me and wanted me to know that “the witness protection program” does not always work. Fred had divorced and moved to North Dakota met a much younger woman (Fred’s words) and got married and is very happy. Wow, good for Fred! I am sorry Fred is not here tonight.
We hope the booklet is as accurate as possible. There is a board here tonight where you may enter the correct information about yourself. List your number as it is in the booklet and any corrections to your email address, your zip, etc. There could be errors especially for the people who are not here. So check the board and make corrections in our own books. I will also bring the board with me tomorrow night.
A few quick notes to end my message tonight. I would like to make a few apologies to classmates that I may have offended.
1. I would like to apologize to Bunny Matthews for laughing at her in 4th or 5th grade. Remember we wore skirts or dresses to school. At recess she was on the jungle gym/monkey bars and hanging upside down. She had a big hole in her underpants and I laughed. I am sorry Bunny wherever you are. From then on I made certain that I wore long pants if I went on the monkey bars.
2. I would like to apologize to Wendy for voting against her as far as joining our club in 6th grade. Wendy, you were not able to learn the pledge so we could not accept you as a member. However, we are reconsidering tonight and will hold a meeting and let you know.
3. Sandi, I want to apologize for participating in tying you to a tree in the woods across from your house in 6th grade. It was winter time with snow on the ground. Remember it was #353’s idea. Anyway, we are glad that you got free.
4. Tom, again I am so sorry about having you bring the pretzels to school for a surprise party that did not exist. We actually wanted you to bring potato chips. Again, not my idea but it was # 484’s.
5. Lynne, I am sorry that I made you go to work with me at the Bubble Gum Factory. OMG, we hated it but you were a friend and hung in there for the $1.00 an hour we made, all the gum we could take home, and then walk home exhausted and covered in sugar. You were probably not exhausted as you sat all day to pick out the bad gum and I stood all day and welded gum together.
We all appreciate the effort many of you have taken to be here tonight. You are our friends and we want all of you to know that we still care about you. Keep in touch with each other. Let’s plan our road trips now that we know where everyone lives. Stay healthy and continue to lead a good life.
